BASICS OF NOTARIZATION
WHAT IS A NOTARY
A Notary is an official of integrity appointed by state government, by the Secretary of State, to serve the public in non-contentious matters, usually concerned with estates, deeds, powers of attorney and foreign and international business. A notary performs a variety of official fraud-deterrent acts relating to the signing of important documents.
A PA Notary is authorized to perform the following six (6) Notarial Acts:
- Acknowledgments
- Administering Oaths or Affirmations
- Verification of Oaths or Affirmations
- Witnessing or Attesting Signatures
- Copy Certifications
- Noting a Protect of a Negotiable Instrument

When you become a Notary it enables you to work in many different capacities. The following are just a few examples of the important transactions you will be responsible for witnessing and authenticating:
